Super Bowl Eve

My portrait done by Will Forrester who is good artist and makes me laugh.

Just got back from my Bible Guys class.  We had a special guest today, a friend of one of the guys who has been working as a bible translator for thirty years.  He has been in Nepal and is now in India.  Most interesting talk and we learned a lot.  One of those things is that there are 1700 languages in the world that still have no Bible translation available.  Amazing.

Also here is our next Pilgrim Beatitude, which I know you are all anxiously awaiting:

BLESSED ARE YOU PILGRIM, WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE WORDS TO GIVE THANKS FOR EVERYTHING THAT SURPRISES YOU AT EVERY TWIST AND TURN OF THE WAY.

Yes, been there, done that, got the t-shirt.  It is amazing how spot on these are.  I am looking at these in two ways.  One is looking backward and saying to myself yes this is true, that happened.  And two, when I received this and started reading it early on in my Camino I had a suggestion of something to look for.

Oop, noon, just fell asleep.   Oh well, probably needed it.  So, here we go ya’ll, another Super Bowl coming up.  And in case you forgot, it’s Frank’s Hot Sauce that you need to pick up at the store to make the real Buffalo Chicken Wings.  And most Buffalonians go margarine over butter on this.  You can’t hardly find this kind of inside scoop anywhere else and especially on this short notice.   We got it here at Caminoheads!  Go Falcons, love, Felipe.

  1. Good reminder! We are stopping on the way home to pick up those wings! That is Kelly’s specially and that is how he makes them too!

So how does that sit that you root against your daughter and son in law’s team?

This year I am just interested in the commercials no real ties to any one team.

    1. Carol ~ Yes mam, a wing reminder. Although sometimes I go with drumsticks and cook them the same way. Ah, daughter and son-in-law not interested in football so we can glide past that. You know there is something that we forgot about and that is the halftime show. People watch to see that beside just the game and the adds. Might be a lurking wardrobe malfunction in the offing, never know. I think it’s Lady Gaga this year. Pretty exciting all and all. We have a walk tomorrow afternoon and then the game so we will have a couple or three pilgrims with us. Hello to Kelly. Felipe.x

  2. Hola Felipe,
I love this beatitude (too). It is interesting how many of these were/are “self discovered” too, along the way. How to give thanks, how to find the words to say “thank you for telling me that” or “thank you for listening” or “those were the words I needed to hear”… most likely because sometimes I realized of those feelings when the fellow pilgrim was no longer next to me; fortunately, some others they were. I found myself crying without finding the word for the feelings, some others, I was just hugging the fellow pilgrim next to me 🙂

And I feel blessed the Camino gave me the chance to be there for others too.

I remember clearly my stay in Rabanal del Camino, in the Albergue Guacelmo. I was unpacking in the top bunk bed, and the pilgrim in the lower bed had taken off his shoes, his blisters were horrible. I said to him “that must be painful”, he nodded; and he said he would have liked to see a doctor but it was Sunday and was told there was nobody in the pueblo. I offered him I could have a look. He had a shower, and went to the patio, I was finishing my laundry, and we set up 2 chairs in a shade, and we started to talk while I took care of him. He was Irish, in his early 60ies, his wife had died, his children were in Australia, and he told me he was surrounded by nature and his town was a beautiful place. We finished, I helped another lady with her knee, and I did not see him again in the albergue, but then saw him in the vespers and the mass. When I went to bed, he was asleep already. The following morning, while the hospitaleros were making breakfast for us, this pilgrim approached me and with tears in his eyes said to me that he was surrounded by nature and his town was a beautiful place but he was lonely, and he felt at times invisible, forgotten, but when I “saw” him the day before, he felt “seen” and “cared” and he just went silence the day before because he couldn´t find the words to tell me how important I had been for him.

That day in Rabanal, other 2 things happened. I will leave them for another post. But that day in Rabanal, is when what this Camino had for me, was revealed.

Have fun watching the Super-Bowl. Would love to be closed to walk a bit with you up there!
Warm hugs (despite today are wet and chilly hugs)
    Cris

    1. Thank you Cris for the long and meanful comment. Yes, self discovered, that’s good. It is there for the taking. But not everyone gets it. It was self discovered for you and for others but that’s somehow not automatic. Nice story about the Irish man. So many people live in isolation without anyone to “see” them. And good job for being with him the way you did. We are all walking each other home it is said.

And tell us more when you get a chance. Maybe you could write it up for a blog post as not everyone reads these comments. Keep going, I like your style. Felipe.x

      1. Gracias Felipe!

It would be a pleasure to share some of the moments I was blessed to live.
I will write something for you to post when you need a post and you may not have the chance.

I will do it as I have some time in my hands, I have had a couple busy weeks at work.

        Many hugs
        Cris
