Wolf Moon

I was out before dawn this morning and finally caught a glimpse of the wolf moon through a break in the clouds. Gave it a howl which is what I’ve been waiting to do but just haven’t had a chance. Thanks Henriette for keeping me up on this stuff. Nothing like a good howl!

Brings back memories of the Meseta. Sometimes out there in the Middle of Nowhere with the wind blowing so hard one couldn’t think straight I would enjoy some great howls. Maybe a couple, three times a day. We were all wild eyed and wind blown out there.

A while back, sometime after the self isolating became a craze, we signed up for some help from the local food bank. They deliver a shopping bag of groceries every Thursday afternoon. To show you what a great place Vashon is to ride out a pandemic they had rack of lamb in this week’s bag. Yea, this is tough! We hadn’t had lamb in years and enjoyed the heck of it. Those wolves know what they were doing to target lamb, racks and all.

le lobo loves, Felipé.

  1. Haa-ooooo. Great one, Phil. The first full moon of 2021 is the Wolf Moon, and, according to the Seattle Times, “howling at it is an expression of readiness to reintegrate with the pack after a period of self-exploration.” Are we ever ready to reenter the pack after this (ha ha) “self-isolating craze.” I can just picture you, in your cornfield at midnight, and on the Meseta, leaning back your head and letting out a call of the wild. And, a rack of lamb from the local food bank! I’m moving to Vashon.
Lamb love (with a side of mint jelly),

    1. Henriette ~ I like that readiness to reintegrate. That is where we are at or getting close anyway. So what’s next month, purchasing plane tickets moon, picking out bandana colors moon, ordering port-o-potty’s moon? It’s a week to Super Bowl. Felipé.x

  2. Hi boss,

This is not fair… I was just dreaming about the Camino, those moments in the Meseta where the road seemed endless (as you say in the movie…) and you mention now in the post… Were we lucky or what to enjoy it with the safety and normalcy that we did…? I miss those early mornings before dawn, where the moon was still there, we were wearing our fleeces, and there was this smell of bread and wood smoke in the streets… Not sure if I saw howls, but you know me, maybe I was just doing sleep-walking to the Bar for Cafe con leche con tostadas!

Take me back to the Camino loves,
    Cris

PS: Would the Vashon food bank do international delivery?! 😛

    1. Cris ~ I’ll check on the international delivery idea from the food bank! They might need a challenge. Yea, the Meseta; there is a major challenge. That whole thing kind of gets seared into your memory. Yea, we will have to line up a talk soon. Felipé.x

  3. Do you get wolves on Vashon Island?we don’t get anything more exciting than 🦡 badgers and 🦊 foxes on the large wild mammal front.they’re always on about reintroducing the Euro Asian Lynx but the farming lobby keep putting the boot in as they say fearing the Lynx will kill their sheep of course out of control dogs kill loads of sheep which carries a heavy fine and farmers are allowed to shoot the dogs but not the owners who let them run amock in the first place.i was once nearly killed by horses after some idiot let his Great Dane loose in a field and it ran after the horses causing a stampede in my direction.i rang the police but I don’t know if they did anything and I suppose he’d and the dog had departed before they got there?

    1. Kevan ~ well, no real wild wolves on the Island as of yet. A mile or so down the road we used to have a wolf sanctuary called Wolf Haven and you could hear them howling. But those folks have moved on leaving us wolfless. Right now we are up to eagles, coyotes and cougars which we seem to be able to handle most of the time. We have an out of control deer population so they help with that some. Yea, feral dogs are a nuisance for sure. Later, Felipé.
