Simple and Singular

Just one.

I was just replying to a comment from Cris in Buenos Aires. She was writing about the blossom that was featured in yesterday’s post. She said, “nature is never confused” referring to the single bloom appearing. Yes, maybe one is just the right number.

As thoughts do my mind went to the square miles of sunflowers blooming on the plains along the Camino in August. What would one flower be is that show, one amoung millions. Too many to count type numbers happening. But really in December here in the Northern Hemisphere, here at Raven Ranch, it seems totally sufficient and apropos.

It stands out just being itself. Maybe so much like the Christchild in the manger. All very simple and singular. It is what it is or He is who He is. We should be that pure, that straight forward.

Off I go to build a fire in the shop and put another coat of finish on the table. Maybe I just saw a snowflake? Hmm, could be. God willing we will be back together in twenty four hours. All that I can gather loves, Felipé.

  1. Hola Felipe,

I read your post now and I was going to write about my observational experience to support that statement that “Nature is never confused”, and how I have learned to understand my own life also, as a fact of nature… Whenever I feel that things are “taking too long”, I think of those tomatoes that I see tiny and green in the plant, and remember that “things need time”, it is just as simple as that…. or whenever I feel like “I am not ready” despite others tell me “I should be”, I think on those tomatoes we buy in winter: all read and perfectly rounded, but tasteless… and then think of those tomatoes my grandfather used to plant, and look after with care, and check on them every day, and only pull out of the plant when it was “The” time, and they were so unbelievable great… just to remember that it is not just all about “the objective” things like calendar time, we, as the tomatoes, need time to be ripe, and to make the most of the experience… this is why I am a firm believer of what Nature tells me with tomatoes, and always think “She” is right.

And of the “only one”, think of this: Nature also tells us that babies come in one… yes, twins and multiple births happen, but what we think of “normal”, is the uniqueness of “only one”, just as your advent cactus… or maybe, your prophetic cactus, that tells nothing more that what Nature has to tell.

    1. Cris ~ I am tasting your grandfather’s tomatoes from here. Yes, there is really no substitute for that TLC of your grandfather. And yes, real stuff takes time. We are an impatient animal and have a hard time with that waiting thing but you are right. Hey, while I have you, please bring me some more of that soap. I am using it for shaving and have used it sparingly for a year and a half now. Thanks, Felipe.x

      1. Yes, my grandfather was exactly a TLC man!
And for sure, “Mate” soap will be added to my packing list!!! I am SOOOO looking forward to those days!
        Hugs to you!
        Cris
