An Orderly Retreat

Wiley, James and I scampered out of the hills on Thursday afternoon ahead of a winter snow storm predicted to dump another one to three feet of snow on us. Yup, it was disappointing in a way but it was the only thing to do. We left the elk to their winter wonderland and headed downhill.

The guys had a good time and learned some valuable lessons. I‘m glad that I left midweek for a break and gave them time to themselves. And I got to go to Cabela’s Outdoor Store and get some badly needed gear and clothing then. Picked up a new coffee pot because my old trusty one that I got for a 25 cents forty years ago sprung a leak, cost $59.
Also got a new chore vest to replace the one I found out in the sage brush two years ago, cost another $59. Yup.

So, the election is over sort of. Still a mess but we go on in spite of the silliness. We still have coffee to drink and chores to do and of course faith to maintain. And great to be back in communication with you all. We have lots of time to sort things out.

your love is never a chore, Felipé.

  1. LOVE THOSE ELK HOTEL/CAMPING PICTURES.

GLAD TO READ THAT YOU HAVE SAFELY RETUNED TO RAVEN RANCH.

    MORE ADVENTURES YET TO COME……………

    1. William ~ you know about that mountain weather, how fickle and treacherous it can be. We had a pretty smooth if not slightly disappointing exit. But my purpose is to pass on the elk hunt to the young bucks so they can do it all when the time comes. We are now drying out the tent, porch and fly in the wood shop so we can roll it up for the year. So next year! Felipé.

  2. I am happy to hear that you are home safe and sound after enjoying time in the outback and helping the economy by purchasing some new stuff. I hear that the elk are happy with that decision as well.
Let’s get this moon working again, it’s gloomy here!

    1. Ronaldo ~ hi. Yup we are back. I enjoyed being away fro the news and realities but we are back. The elk are safe from us. They are so safe anyway it’s ridiculous. They really own the place, we are the aliens. They can so out do us 90% of the time. Just waiting for them to make the rare mistake. Hello to Anne. Felipé.

  3. What an amazing (and cold) experience!!! Now, we all know how you keep yourself young: freezing treatment like Walt Disney, and staying “cool” by hanging out with the young folks (Wiley and James -the most interesting man in the world, right?!) ~~ (and me!!!)

Loved to know that you had a great time one more! By living these experiences, you are all building wonderful memories!

Southern hemisphere in a warm spring hugs and love,
    Cris

    1. Cris ~ yea, freakin cold OK, we got that part down, yea, staying cool that’s us. So, we are back to the news and everyday reality. We are trying to figure out how to “do” Thanksgiving this year. Everyone and their uncle is saying don’t gather. OK, OK! We were supposed to eat with Jim and Jen but we might share food and do the actual meal over speaker phone. Crazy year. Happy to hear it is springtime there for you! Miss you! Felipé.x

  4. Looks cold there!how do you walk in the snow?I remember that, year ago,I went up a mountain in Montenegro and every step I sank in to my knees and it took me an age to get to the summit but luckily I was determined.we didn’t get any snow last year but usually you get a bit but only about 2 or 3 inches at the most and it melts quickly.no chance of snow today as it’s 15c!

    1. Kevan ~ yes, we were tromping through the snow. When it gets above the knee it is time for snowshoes. Yup, it is a different world. I remember chasing a herd of elk in waist deep snow there. I was walking in one of their tracks. But they didn’t walk single file. The whole bunch of them was going so this way and that no problem. They so own the place. Felipé.
