To all Pilgrims Past,Present and Future,
A Privilege indeed to step into Phil’s shoes and put forward a small contribution to this Incredible Blog.
Here I offer a brief introduction from your C.C.B.C.–Caminoheads Canadian Bureau Chief–William.
Born June 1945 at home in Glasgow Scotland.
As a child and in early youth I spent much time outdoors walking and cycling in the Beautiful Scottish countryside.
Restless was I, in my late teens, to see more of our wonderful Planet. This resulted in me immigrating, on my own,to Canada in March 1966 just prior to my 21st birthday.
Continued my Life long addiction of walking by exploring many hiking trails in the Canadian Rockies over the past 50+ years.
Many many THANKS to Phil and Rebecca for hosting an AMAZING Veranda this August 2019.
To all, from near and far, who contributed to the Verandas Great Success I say a Heartfelt THANK YOU.
As Mother Teresa would say—Life is an Adventure,Dare it.
Buen Camino everyone.
Out of many warm memories of the Veranda, this one sticks out: my daughter Katherine and I, after a fraught-filled trip to get there, arrive at dusk at the long gravel driveway leading to Raven Ranch, to be greeted by a man with a hand-painted yellow arrow on his tee-shirt standing in the middle of the road, with a finger on his lips, motioning us to silence and stillness. We stop, get out of our car to find William quietly pointing to a majestic barn owl camouflaged in a tree. We surely would have passed it by in our rush to arrive. A feeling of peace and welcome came over me. Thank you, William for setting the Veranda pace right from the start, and for exemplifying the Veranda’s lessons: Be still. Listen. Absorb. Pay attention to little things. Be aware. Share.
Thank You Henriette for your very kind words.
May you meet many more Owls along the way.
With Gratitude.
William. C.C.B.C.
Dear William,
What a treat to meet you and getting to know you… You have such an inspiring life story… leaving Scotland so early and in the way you did, being in the cover of the newspapers walking in a kilt for charity in a matter of days… and I loved hearing your work in the local Waldorf school, teaching the kids so many things and becoming Grandpa William for so many…
Your presence in the Veranda reminded me to slow down, just be, and be content with what is around… pretty amazing to think you taught me that in 4 days and for free!!! Thank you for sharing with me this committee of Bureau Chiefs and the path in life from now on!
Pilgrims & BC Love,
Cris
A pleasure indeed to meet you at the Veranda.
As Mother Teresa would say “Life is a Song,Sing it”.
With JOY.
