A Break In The Rain

Half of the corn plants are visible.

Off to the city this afternoon for a checkin at the hospital. And taking Jessika to the airport for her trip to Rome. In the meantime the sun is out over Raven Ranch. The corn and the weeds are growing. I can put some energy and time in on weed control since the intermittent rain is watering it just dandy.

Let me take some time and energy right here to work on the NEWS ABOUT THE CAMINOHEADS CONVENTION:

Just to repeat some of the important stuff. We are having open house here at the ranch August 23- 26th. That’s four days of activities with plenty of time for gabbing and telling lies with fellow pilgrims. Most of the Bureau Chiefs will be here. I am assigning BC’s with duties while they are here and we will have a few meetings.

If you are flying in you need to arrive at SeaTac airport. Find your way to the Washington State Fauntleroy Ferry Dock in West Seattle, half hour from the airport. Cross over to Vashon on ferry that takes cars and passengers. We will in most cases be able to pick you up from the ferry dock here on the Vashon side if you are on foot. We will need a certain amount of rental cars so if you can afford one please get one.

We have plenty of camping available for tents and camper vehicles. We will have porta potties. We will have an outdoor kitchen available for campers.

This will be corn season and we should have plenty of corn to provide some for everyone. We can bbq, grill and potluck our way through this. Vashon has two supermarkets and a dozen eateries.

I am sure that there are plenty of b and b’s available if you get one early. Please RSVP at [email protected] before June 15th with the number in your party.

I am expecting around fifty interesting people to show up. Father Tom Hall is coming as is filmmaker Annie O’Neil. Cris Milher will be here from Buenos Aires, William Hayes from Calgary and John Conway from Iowa. Our Puget Sound Western Washington Bureau Chief Ryck Thompson is arriving by boat naturally. My Rebecca, the fabulous Catherine y Dana combo will be here. I expect a good representation of local Caminoheads to show up.

Think about it and come if you can. It will be fun and as always memorable. In the words of Chris, Caminoheads love togethernessing. That’s the plan.

Off I go. Convention loves, Felipé.

  1. Hola Felipe,

Congratulations to you, Jim and Gloria for the planting success!!! Having planted myself the cover crop back in October 2017 and having seen the sprouts that showed up, I know the feeling!!!

I have been reflecting a lot in this corn field that you have there… how that piece of field became more than the piece of land where you plant the corn that will feed you during the summer and the winter time…. this place became a place of community, with whoever visiting your place, leaving some energies (work) on it, energies that for sure will go into the corn and then meals and then your body…

But another truth is that the corn field is a place to seed… and with this communal work with the helping hands of your friends that you invite to your field, there is so much that corn seeds or cover crop seeds being planted or watered (as I am sure PFJ will do next weekend!)…

I think that field represents so much what “Communion” means…

Thank you for inviting me to leave my energies in your field, to plant the cover crop and my love and friendship there too, for inviting me at the table to share the fruits too… Thank you for allowing me to be part of this all!

    Seeds of Love,
    Cris

But another truth is that the corn field is a place to seed… and in this communal work with the helping hands of your friends that you invite to your field, there is so much *love going along with* that corn seeds or cover crop seeds being planted or watered (as I am sure PFJ will do next weekend!)…

    2. Cris ~ thank you for the broad overview! Yes, I see that. It is all very natural though and should be the norm, the basic plan for more. At one point in my farming effort I was spending a lot of time clearing the land of invasive tangles. So, I was spending 95 percent on hacking and burning. That is necessary sometimes but must be balanced with the nurturing of actually growing stuff. That is one reason why the corn is more than corn to me. Felipé.x

  2. I am sorry that I won’t be able to be with you all, but we are just getting connected in Astorga and setting up ‘the bureau’ for this region. We are in a train headed (am I allowed to use that word?) to Santiago to welcome a new pilgrim to the city.

Praying for a surprise outcome on your treatment, and now that I am online, I will be more communicative.

    1. Ronaldo setting up communication from Spain! I am so happy about your situation man. We are so interested to have your stories and pics of the Camino. Hello to Ann. Felipé.
