Yesterday the blog mistakenly got entitled, “We Can Help Ourselves”.   That was supposed to be “Can’t” but I’m leaving it.  Maybe that’s as true in it’s own way.  We did help ourselves by choosing the Camino way back when.  So in effect we can help ourselves.  I can see both sides of that one.  So, we’re leaving it.

I discovered the lending library at St. John Vianney’s.  My Rebecca and I watched a video about the author GK Chesterton last night.  But not just any video.  This is from Bishop Robert Barron’s series called “Pivotal Players”.  Man, the Bishop did it to me again.  So well done.  So informative.  So beautiful.  So inspirational.  Chesterton was such an interesting character and so prolific.  And the story is told so well in this video.  See if your church as it or the library.

Whatever the Bish touches is pretty darn golden.  He did the ten part series called “Catholicism”.  We saw it in our RCIA class four years ago.  That really affected me.  So I am looking forward to watching this whole new series.

Well, it’s day 21 for having the corn stand open.  I don’t know if I am going to make 30 days or not.  That is what I was shooting for.  The later corn is ripening so quickly that it might be all over sooner.  But it has been fun trying.

  1. Hey Buddy- Amazing Corn Year! Ours is bogged down in ash-covered leaves and filtered sun to the point of Big Trouble. Had to wash down the entire garden–everything– top to bottom with the hose yesterday to try to save the dying plants. No hunting here– delayed because of fire. Really.

    Not to go off topic– okay, To Go Off Topic, Hannah’s fancy corn is, well, mysterious. But Hannah looks like the type who WOULD make a Fancy Corn of Culinary Delight, so what is it?

    Anyway– you sound good. Like your regular self. Which, BTW, IS good.

    1. Ash covered dude from Ashland ~ it’s all very weird. People weird out. Hanna made Elote. Think it’s Mexican.
      Sauce of sour cream and cheese, then sprinklings of cilantro, sprinkling of Ancho chili powder then lime juice. Yea, the kids come up with this newfangled stuff. Right now having corn for lunch. I lost some weight from the aggressive treatments so I am trying to gain it back. Hope the doggie is OK. Need to exercise those Mt Quail.   2. I love it when typos become reality. And I applaud your willingness to leave it alone and to take us with you in thinking it through.
    We will see if the Bish material is available on this side of the Union.

  3. We are well, thank you. Or maybe I should say All is well with our soul. Ann had her first cataract surgery today and is watching TV. She reports seeing color and shapes sharply, and that everything is bright, so I think it went well.
    We have been eating local corn here too, but not on an effort to gain any weight!

  4. Jack had a GK Chesterton bib when he was an infant (as in, a black-and-white print of little Chesterton profiles). It was made by one of our grad students. I guess things like that happen when you teach at a school of theology, hehe.
