For sixty nine years I have been complaining about my birthday being so close to Christmas. Well maybe I didn’t start complaining till I was ten or something but there was a point when I did the math and discovered that I was getting 1.5X and not 2X in terms of loot. It was one of the first indications that life wasn’t fair.
Anyway, this year on my 69th birthday we had such a smashing good party that we eclipsed Christmas. And that was after me being at the hospital all day for treatment. Not that I have anything against Christmas but it is just hard to compete with, impossible for a kid. Now all of a sudden after all these years it felt like we broke even or perhaps surpassed the energy of Christ’s birthday just for a few brief moments.
Well, that is just a look back at the holidays. We are still getting our feet wet in the new year and still have the tree up so it still lingers. Well, that’s a good thing.
Here is a quote from Joyce Rupps monthly e blog today:
“Perhaps a balance can be found in George Bernard Shaw’s quote from David Richo’s The Five Things We Cannot Change: “This is the true joy in life: being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one, being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap, being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish, little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.”
“Being thoroughly worn out” I’m working on big time. And the other parts of that quote sound familiar so maybe I’m finally on the right track finally in my 69th year finally. OK, well that is what is apparent today in my day.
The best to you, you’re the best, love, Felipe.
Sheeesh– you’re older than dirt! You’re STILL older than I & even though my BD is a few days before yours, you remain 3 years ahead. Sheeesh.
A lot’s happened in the last 4 years or so, huh? To quote you quoting somebody else awhile back: …”and you’re still alive and everything.” Well, we can celebrate THAT, can’t we?
That quote is one I’d read years ago– and I am delighted to see it again. This time I’ll copy it and print it. Sometime these homilies seem so simplistic, and then it turns out that in simplicity great meaning is often lying in wait to ambush our understandings when we’re not looking.
The geese are flying and I lost my new goose call. Feels unfair, but I figure it’s more because I probably missed the pocket of my Big Bills and it fell down the pant leg by the side buttons. Now that’s funny, I don’t care what part of the country you’re from! Especially since it happened right BEFORE it snowed about a foot.
All good. Stunningly beautiful out my window. Don’t know how to attach a pic here, but I’ll email it.
Esteban ~ It think it was Loran our cedar guy saying, “Look at you all alive and stuff!”. Nice huh? Thanks man, another long email for me to read while at treatment. My day at the old hospital today. Got about twenty minutes to go. Let me know how the goose hunting is going. And glad you liked the quote. For now, have to pack up for my escape, Felipe.
your a mere kid Felipe!
