OK, We’re Not Waiting For The Corn To Ripen

The view from my hammock, siesta time.

From advice and urging from Pilrim Farmer John, hailing from Iowa, the corn capitol of the universe, I am picking my corn a little earlier than I would normally.  He cringed when he read that I was waiting for my corn to ripen.  He thinks that the way to do it is to eat it before it gets to far along.  So that flavored my thinking (nice pun huh?) today and I went ahead and picked four ears which we had for lunch the check and then a dozen for the stand just to get things started.  So we are doing it!  And this was the day that I predicted that sales would start and thanks to PFJ we are right on schedule.

Catherine had the idea to have a corn countdown which we did.  10 days, 9 days and so on to today.  Maybe next year if I am still around I’ll have some placards with those numbers on them to put out by the road.  That would be fun.

Yup, pretty near cornperfect around here.  So putting a wrap on our Friday.  See you tomorrow, love, Felipe.

  1. Bought 4 ears for dinner, walked to get em, just like the Camino, walking into town for dinner or in this case your road side stand and we left a tiny tip for the pilgrim farmer. Thank you brother corn grower – thank you.

  2. PFFilipe!

Now we’re talkin’ corn Amigo! You didn’t go on and on about just how wonderful it was to eat it that way, but then I’m guessing you’re the modest sort and wouldn’t feel right bragging up your own product that way. Another little hint of salesmanship, your customers LIKE it when you drool while talking about the treat they’re about to receive from your heavenly little corn plot. “Yes”, they think, “He eats his own product and loves it, ergo, we will eat and love it too”.

Remember back in the Day, we had the “Marine of the Month” award for exemplary performance and leadership. Well, you stepped way out of your comfort zone to make this change and therefore, I, PFJuan, nominate you for (Old) Marine of the Month. Wear the badge proudly 🙂

    1. PFJ ~ right, have to remember to drool extra hard! Hehe. Listening to Aretha gospel album, talkin horsepower. Thanks, PFF.

  3. Camping in the corn. I hope you send pictures of you and the raccoons and the deer. I will bring corn from my tiny, 16, patch and we can have dueling corns. Keep walking, keep picking and love this day.
