We Are off Again

Michele and Phil recently on Phil’s Camino.

Yesterday I was feeling like something had to be done so I made a management decision. We have been walking at Phil’s Camino for months without a plan or destination just wandering in the wilderness, as Catherine says. So, yesterday I left St Jean Pied de Port for another virtual Camino Frances on Phil’s Camino. It seemed like the thing to do.

I am dedicating this walk to Bill, Harry and Steve. They passed away in this last year, all three brought down by cancer. Bill and Harry walked here with us. Steve was an Island friend. Yea, what better way to remember them?

I missed the structure of “Camino” walks which gave an additional dimension to the trek. So now you can ask me where we are and I can tell you. Right now we are on the outskirts of SJPP, a start!

Our first trek “across Spain” went from December 21, 2013 to May 12, 2014, six months. Then the second one went from August 16, 2015 to March 14, 2017, nineteen months. Now here we are starting again December 4, 2017. Nineteen months from now will put us in September 2019! Wow, will I make it that long, that far? Well, you guys will have to finish it for me if I don’t, OK? Anyway, here is to Bill, Harry and Steve.

We have another walk this afternoon. It is pretty cold out these days but sunny. So, come and join us. Love, Felipe.

  1. Well, alright then. Let’s go! And let’s walk it for our buddies, and for you and for the earth.
    You’re the best, Felipe xo

    1. Dana ~ I was thinking about our three departed guys and I wanted to do something for them. Plus I just wanted to remember Spain and the journey there. I think about it everyday. Felipe.x

  2. Love that management decision! Good on you, and good on us. No matter what realm you live in, you’ll be walking, helping St. James out with the pilgrims. When I get out from under the morass of paper, I’ll be out to walk. Maybe before I get out of the morass! Why wait?

    1. Jessika ~ should we come over armed with levers and inclined planes to get you out from under the morass? Maybe you just need a break, so come by. Yup, we are walking with St. James. See you soon, Felipe.x

  3. Don’t forget to include the actual walk across Spain my dear friend. I suppose it’s time for me to plan a trip up to walk with you- but I’m all about the vino tinto after the walk and no more backpacks. Lots of love to you and Your family.

    1. Esther ~ ah, the actual walk! Right. Would be fun to have you come up to the Northland. Have wine, Felipe.x

  4. Hummmmmmmmmmmmmm now, I will need to return to Phil’s Camino and leave my footprints somewhere in the trail, on the way to Santiago!
Sad to hear the news about your buddies passing, walking for them is such a great gesture… that is the purpose of the pilgrimage on the holy years, to obtain the plenary indulgence. That is how I learned about the Camino when I was 16… standing in the same column in the church where I still tend to stand…

    Buen Camino!
    Cris

    1. Cris ~ yes, you do need to come back and walk. We miss your energy. Yes, too many friends left this year. I just had to do something and getting back on the trail to Santiago seemed like the thing. Trying to imagine you standing by your favorite column. Funny how we all have our favorite spots. Time for bed as I am off to treatment in the morning. See you later alligator. Felipe.x.

  5. it’s not really virtual. In my humble opinion, it is the full meal deal, as you would say!
