The Really Really Good News!

Rainbow yesterday after hearing my good news.
Rainbow yesterday after hearing my good news.

Yes sireee Bob, had my good news yesterday.  This was the report on my scan of cancer sites in my body.  Everything there remains stable so there is no change in treatment.  We seem to be doing all the right things, nothing is growing or moving around.  Yea, now I can relax for another three months.

So, are you having some good news out there in the blogosphere?  Don’t forget Mother’s Day is Sunday, at least in the States.  You don’t want to forget that or that will be bad news for you.  Just a friendly reminder.

This is in regard to what we were talking about yesterday in the hospital waiting room.  Was searching for a commando pic on the web but didn’t come up with anything appropriate.  Too much weaponry, or too sexy, or just too.  A commando is “too” by defination but it is different and more than all that garbage.  More than half of it lies between the ears in terms of honesty, smarts, bravery, creativity and endurance.  It used to be known as woodcraft.  That’s what we are looking for, the rest we can be learned.  You got what it takes camper?

What is the enemy?   It is anything that robs us, you and me, of the joy that we were meant to receive today.  We are looking for the full meal deal around here.

Nine o’clock and I need to go.  It’s all going on out there: the good, the bad and the old ugly.  Navigate through it till me meet again.  Commando loves, Felipe.

  1. Hey Marine!

That really is the best of news! i’m thinking ol’ cancer might have just left you be had it known you were such a tough ol’ bugger!

I’m sure you knew I’d have to have something to say about the “commando” thing. After Edson’s Raiders of the FirstMarDiv and then Carlson’s Raiders of the 2ndMarDiv, made such a big splash in early WW2, there was talk in the Marine Corps about adopting the same kind of “elite unit” for all the Divisions. The powers that be hashed and bashed the idea around for a while and made, I think, the right decision. The Marines are ALREADY an elite unit. To try to make a more elite unit within that framework creates more division than cohesion of the whole, so when these “commandos” completed their work in the Pacific and came back home, they were disbanded and the members utilized to train all their fellow Marines in what they had learned in combat.

I’m forwarding my recommendation for that “next level” you’re seeking, and it, of course, has the requisite Camino Connection 🙂 I suggest “conquistador”. These guys weren’t hit and run specialists, they were in it for the long, long haul. Some of their leaders gave the name a bad reputation, but the “grunts” were the ones doing the slogging and fighting. Your aim, and all those others similarly afflicted, is to “conquer” cancer. That’s what conquistadors do-conquer.

  2. Hi Phil,

This is great news, so glad to hear it. Been thinking of you a lot since we are working to get the fundraiser planned. Annie mentioned your chocolate and sardines for breakfast, so I am adding that to the menu for our pilgrim’s breakfast on the 7th. Are you a coffee drinker? I’m having a special coffee roasted and bagged for the fundraising weekend and want to name it something camino related. What do you think?
Anyhow, hope all is well over there today. I’m grateful today for a touch of sunshine and homemade lemonade.
    Cheers,
    Gwen

  3. Wow, Felipe, that is really Good News 🙂 You and Team Phil are keeping that bastard cancer surrounded and we – all the rest of your compadres – are keeping you in our prayers.

Only 56 days until I return to the physical El Camino, although I am on its spiritual Way every single day. I’m going to take along the beautiful business card case you gave me so I can distribute my contact info to the new pilgrims I meet. The other profs at my business school are green with envy every time I whip it out!

Love to you and Your Rebecca,
    MM

  4. Hey PFJ, I am leaning towards the ‘conquistador’, although I must say I am partial to ‘camper’! In any case, Felipe, just know that your good news was circulated through the Phil’s Camino team with the subject line: Newsflash! They all read it and are celebrating with you, Egg Man. Lots and lots of love going your way right now, as always <3
