Thank You Breckenridge, Colorado!

Poster from Phil’s Camino Fundraising Weekend.

This weekend there is a huge fundraising event for Phil’s Camino Documentary in Breckenridge.  Yea, check out the poster.  Numerous events all around town.  There’s the theater, the Speakeasy  Movie Theater.  There’s the cafe right next door,  Yellow Arrow (sound familiar) Coffee.    There’s  a venue, the Breck Grand Vacations  Community Center.  A church, St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church.  All kinds of Caminohead stuff going on.

I have been in contact with a lady named Gwen who is the owner of Yellow Arrow Coffee.  She has Phil’s Pilrim Brew Coffee on sale there.  And also, check this out,  my favorite Camino breakfast sardines and chocolate on the menu.  Bless her heart.

So, this is all happening right now as I write.  Annie has just called twice with groups of folks that wanted to talk with me.  They just got done with the Pilgrim’s Mass at the church.

Hot day in Seattle.  We are such weenies here, it gets over 80 degrees and we start whining.  But my corn and sunflowers are practically jumping out of the ground.  Bless you Annie and Breckenridge.  What the most we can make out of this day, love you, Felipe.

  1. Hola PF Felipe!

When good things happen to and for good people, life is as good as it gets. It would appear that is exactly the case right now. Kudos to all involved with the movie making and fund raising. Looks like those good folks in Breckenridge know how to put the “fun” in “fundraising”. Love that town anyway. I used to ski there like I actually knew what I was doing a decade or two back.

It’s in the upper 80’s here and if you fell asleep in our cornfields, by the time you woke up, you might not find your way back :). A lovely inch and a half of rain last night so the “pedal’s to the metal” with all those happy plants.

    1. PFJuan ~ yea, three cheers for Breckenridge! I’ve never been there but will have to go now. The last time I skied was Winter Park, CO, centuries ago. It was the best skiing I ever had but locals were going home early because the snow was so bad. I’ve skied Beech Mt, NC, which is 3500 ft. Local musicians played saws in the lodge. Different scene.

OK, so, that’s cuz you live right that you got that 1 1/2 inch of rain. Beautiful. We could use half of that. I’ve been irrigating my little plot and barely keeping up with it with the heat. But the stuff is jumping out of the ground. Using a 5-1-1 fish fertilizer in the water so it’s liking that. I just thinking about the deer chewing the tops off of some of the plants and I hear the neighbors dog barking. Hmm.

Well, have to run. Thanks always for your insights and humor. Felipe.

  2. if we’d left on the1st of March we could have walked to the Breckinridge event. (Sigh) but who would of weeded, tilled, planted and watered that corn?

Well done Annie. We here on Vashon are eager to help get the film finished.

  3. Hola PFPhilipe!

Seven years out of every ten, the best thing about feeding cattle is all the manure you “harvest” to put back on your fields. Hopefully, the other three years is when you actually make some money 🙂 This time of year is when the neighbors drive by my farm and slow down with “green-corn-growing-fast-envy” on their faces. Later in the summer, it all kind of catches up and looks the same, but there’s no guessing where the poop is working the hardest in early June. So, I’m glad you have your fishy fertilizer, but I’m glad it’s you and not me!

Keep the presses rolling on this Breckenridge thing. It’s cooler than the Coors Light Frozen Express. Wonderful sister-in-law and hubby live in Denver and I may just encourage them to “head for the mountains” and help you all out!

    1. PFJuan ~ yes fishy fertilizer, just sniffing my hands to see if it is finally gone, it has that lasting quality. But the thing is, the deer seem to leave,it alone. It’s a twofer. I have a good supply of horse manure also and I am going to side dress the pretty little corns with that as soon as I can take a break from watering.

It is so much fun to actually have a positive relationship with plants. At one point a few years ago I realized that I was spending 95% of my time hacking and burning beating back the jungle (ah, rain forest). It just makes a guy wish he lived in Arizona where you could have A PLANT in the gravel in the front yard and water it and be happy.

Yea, that was pretty cool what happened in CO over the weekend. Annie can really whip things up. You know the Phil’s Pilgrim Brew Coffee and the sardine and chocolate breakfast may be available via FedEx. You don’t have to maybe go there. I will put the phone number of Yellow Arrow Coffee in the blog when I find it.

OK, have to go and do something “useful”. Have fun watching your corn grow, Felipe.

    2. PFJuan ~ was that a smiley face in your communique? I didn’t know Marine Officers used smiley faces, please clarify. PFFelipe.

  4. Philipe,

In USMC parlance, that was “a half-ass” smile, which is all junior officers are allowed to exhibit. Thanks for asking!

    1. PFJuan ~ as you will notice in today’s blog post I have over-used smiley faces and some others due to repressive pent-up smiley face energy (RPUSFE). I am probably slightly outside of protocol but hope that you will forgive me. No one can ever accuse Marines of not being enthusiastic. I will try and control myself in the future. PFFelipe.

  5. I’m back from Breckenridge and binge-reading this blog, getting my Felipe fix. First of all, I think we all know that you two will get together at some point, Fr. John and Felipe, and when that happens, watch out, ha ha! And, yes, Phil, I couldn’t help notice that you have learned about emojis! 😀 Buen Camino, everybody!

    1. Annie ~ thank you so very much for your loving work on the Breckenridge weekend long get together. We now have great new friends and connections. Talk to you soon, Felipe.
