OK, No More About Rodents

If I could put these two pics together we would have Filipe fighting off the Attack of the Giant Mountain Beaver!

Well, OK, maybe a little more. Steve-O, our long lost buddy has actually seen the “quiet and ubiquitous” Mountain Beaver. Wow! See his comment on yesterday’s post for details.

I have tracked down (tracked down is the kind of language used by flinty guys like Steve-O that grew up outdoors in the Pacific Northwest before computers) the source of all this and it started with My Rebecca. Yea, she was missing several plants in her garden which is inside a deer fence. There was no evidence of the culprit. So she goes to Kathy who owns the local plant nursery and asks her. What could that be?

So Kathy goes of on a huge thing about Mountain Beavers and how there was an infestation in Puyallup. Yea. Like little lumberjacks they chopped down all the broccoli there which could be a good thing depending on your view of that veggie. And apparently there was an expert that came to Vashon at that time and proclaimed our island free from the “quiet and ubiquitous” rodent. Yea, but did he look under each and every bush? Did he look under my kitchen sink?

You know, when I tell you we are up to our armpits in Nature around here you have to believe me. And hopefully we are done with this particular topic so we can get on to more serious matters. OK, off to split and stack next years firewood. Wish you were here to help. Love you guys, Felipe.x

  1. testing out “leave a comment””!!!

    does it work?

really getting into this blog thing …

no mountain beavers here, I don’t think, but an infestation of racoons – may have to order a silencer for my .22 from a mutual friend, to thin the herd.

    1. Guillaume ~ yes, the comments work. We got plenty of raccoons too. They can be a big problem. Good luck with that. Write back anytime, Phil.

  2. You’re cracking me up over here: only you can write the title “OK, No More About Rodents” then follow it up with the first line, “Well, OK, maybe a little more.” Hah! Love it! Love you! Thought of you this week with all this World Tapas Day activity. Didn’t get too far with tapas, but did manage to recreate a drink I had at SXSW that involved Limoncello (gift from the Gods) and Tito’s vodka. Very nice. Anyway, just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you.

    We just can’t help ourselves!

    1. Annie ~ thank so much for this early Monday morning comment. I am sitting down with my second coffee with no idea of what to write about today maybe you will jar some brain cells loose. Yea, the wildlife news was fun for a while but now on to what? Maybe on to Limoncello! We at the Western Washington Tapa Board will have to do some research.

Just heard from Handler Carol and she said she had made reservations for the Port Townsend weekend. This promises to be a blast, I can tell already. It just keeps on rolling. Love you, Felipe.x
