Yea, a male bird sat on our lilac bush just outside the kitchen table. These are very pretty and maybe more so because they are rare here. Always refreshing to look upon beauty. And a break from other things.

I’ll see your Western Tanager and raise you one. I was bike riding on the local rail-trail this week and spotted a Scarlet Tanager. Talk about your fancy birds! Those guys are practically iridescent! A rare sighting for us too. I day or two before that I saw an Indigo Bunting on the same trail, just as shiny, only blue. Such a treat to have that kind of natural beauty around us all the time. It just takes a little looking sometimes.

Hey, Phil (and PFJ), that same afternoon we saw a Western Tanager on a mountain just outside of Port Alberni, BC. At the same moment, we also saw a Willow Grouse with her fluffy little chicks.
