MY PROMOTIONS

There has been some talk about my recent promotion to General and I wanted to give you some details on that and some explanation going back to my promotion to Colonel years ago.  My recent upgrade to General was something totally my own idea.  If not now when?  Right?  But the upgrade to Colonel was by comparison hard fought and I wanted to describe it for you.

Back ten years ago at least My Rebecca and I were on the road north of Seattle and we stopped at a roadside fruit stand.  There wasn’t anyone there as it was honor system.  They had lots of fresh picked fruit although I can’t remember what.  We were there picking out this and that and a car rolls up and a young man on crutches comes over.  After a few minutes I witness him fall flat on the gravel.   I rush over to help.  And he starts yelling at me, “You asshole, you asshole!”   And I responded, “That’s Colonel Asshole to you!”   I back up getting between him and Rebecca.  The only thing we were ever able to figure out was that he was freshly out on his own after his injury and he wanted to function as normal.  Little did I know.  Anyway I left him with my card but I never heard from him but the promotion lived on.

So, I was happy with Colonel Asshole for quite a few years but now with all the added responsibility of my current situation a promotion is in order.  So, I have to explain that this is all in my head and requires no uniforms, paraphernalia or secret handshakes.  This does not change anything in our friendship for each other.  I just wanted to explain.

Thanks for your time.

Felipé.

  1. Dear Boss,

So relieved this promotion does not change anything in our friendship… I have been sooooooo worried all these days!!!!!!!!!! I am already under a lot of pressure reporting to The Boss, writing this blog, imagine if over to that, I would need to add the pressure that comes with you being a General… :S

    LOVE YOU BUCKETS!!!!!!
    MISSSSS YOUUUUUUUUUUU
    Cris

  2. You have done well!My Dad only ever made it to private when he was in the army!I’ve never been tempted to join up myself to see how far I’d get probably not very far as I have an aversion to bullies shouting out orders and whatnot!Mind now with my Lymphoma I doubt that they’d have me!

  3. Sort of like being the captain of your ship!

The one who makes final decisions and all.

That is your right General 🙂

  4. Generally speaking, your rank is impressive, General.
What kind of fruit did you procure? The crutch guy sounds like a real peach. Begs the question as to who the a$$hole was, if we’re going with the honor system.
    Lay on, Macduff!

  5. I grew up with generals and you’ve got the best of their qualities, Phil. Wish I could charm my dad with your Col. Asshole rank. Perhaps all you honorable warriors can swap stories at the next transfer.

  6. So no inspections, marching, or passing in review at the Oasis? What a relief!

  7. Welp, there’s the possible promotion to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Chairing the Camino Oversight Committee comprised of …Bureau Chiefs?
Seems you’ve eased right into that role.
    Who woulda known?
    And well done, Col.Gen.Chrmn.!
Seriously, my friend, you’ve moved through the ranks with grace and honor, sheparding the troops to find and become their best selves; working out the puzzle with us and honing the essence of Caminoheading. Leading by being, and advocating for our well-being, too; sharing the struggles and blessings of sorting the entanglements without placing yourself in a hierarchy of pilgrims, much less any kind of top dog.
You are ours and we are yours:
Pilgrims, seekers; the curious, the ones that see all of life as a pilgrimage to explore with vigor and intention.
We’re no longer just looking out of the train window and seeing life go by.
    We’re out there.
    Good work.
That should, I hope, sit well in your private, heartful center, and be carried with you into the tent and beyond.

    1. Steve-O thank you for the fearless words. I loved, “leading by being”. Felipé.
