Well, Phil’s Camino’s Not Closed!

Catherine came to walk with me this AM, bless her.

Snowy conditions across Washington State. It has been snowing on and off all night and we got maybe 3 inches here at our 300 foot elevation and more to come this AM. Schools all closed, kids happy. But what about Phil’s Camino? According to Steve NWBC, “We never close!” That’s right, Phil himself will be marching around the situation here momentarily.

I’ll take a few pix of things for you of the winter wonderland. And I would so love to come across cougar tracks or some such rarity out there. Well, you will be the first to know.

And with yesterday’s blog about remembering where we were fifty years ago at least one good comment came in on that. Diego from Lake Arrowhead remembers things here on the West Coast at that time. Well, check it out and maybe there is more by now.

Yup, guess winter is still holding court here. I’ve been longingly looking through seed catalogs myself thinking we were going to slide past this kind of activity, but no guess not.

OK, well, here I go. I have fifteen minutes to gear up. We never close, right Felipé? If I’m not back in an hour call the Mounties. Love, Felipé.

  1. ¡Hola Felipe!

We are also getting snowy conditions way down south of you here in Lake Arrowhead. The internet gets kind of cranky and goes on and off…(which led me to re-post/write my comment yesterday). We’re about 5,000 feet higher than Ravens Ranch but have the same amount of white stuff. Some roads are closed with small landslides but keeping the fire going.

Along with your blog post yesterday about what was going on 50 years ago…came an invitation to gather our Peace Corps Guatemala group next summer up in Bellingham Washington! It happens to be the weekend before the Caminoheads Convention. Looks like over a dozen Returned PCVs will attend. More marauders invading the Pacific Northwest!

I was assigned to the highlands of southwestern Guatemala near the Mexican border. Although we were at an altitude of over 8,000 to 10,000 feet….it never snowed. It just rained very hard for about 6 months. The one bus using the only muddy road into town, once a day, had to chain up all 4 tires for traction. The driver would decide if the road was open or closed.

    Staying open for now-
    Diego

    1. Diego ~ that is so great that you Peace Corps guys will be in the neighborhood. You will have a busy August. Bellingham is just a hop, skip and jump up I-5 from us. This is all very exciting! Thanks for all the news from higher elevations. Felipé.
