I Know Not To Do That

Ivette, Wiley and Marc at the wedding.

Hi. I know better than to read another blog before I write mine in the morning. My own thoughts and feelings at that time are good but usually vague and commingled and in need of refinement. If I get lured into reading Terry Hershey, Richard Rohr or Joyce Rupp I invariably run across some shining idea that Shanghai’s my mind no problem. Well, that just occurred with Richard’s. Oh, I’ll just take a peek says I.

I ran across this Navajo prayer having to do with looking for and appreciating the beauty around us as we walk:

“In beauty I walk
With beauty before me I walk
With beauty behind me I walk
With beauty above me I walk
With beauty around me I walk
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again”

“It has become beauty again” is an interesting sentence now that it begins to wiggle into my mind. What does that mean? We create beauty by seeing and appreciating it? OK, there is some interaction for you! Knowing that beauty is one of the pathways to God, letting that idea tumble around in my mind is giving me the goosebumps.

No way I am going to follow that up with anything I can come up with. Enjoy yourself, help someone out, create something beautiful! Your guy, love, Felipe.

  1. Felipe, I have a good friend and neighbor, Tom Peterson, who has written a song callled Choose Beautiful. My Aunt Charlotte has him play it whenever she visits and it echos your words this morning. I will see if I can work out a way for you to hear it.

      1. I am working on it Felipe and also if you could send Auntie char some healing prayers I would appreciate it. She had a fall the other day and broke two ribs. Luckily doing art is one of the “activities” that decant cause her pain.

  2. Hola Querido Felipe,

I am back! (ant that means a lot of things!!!) But, let me tell you first that yesterday my morning, when I read those words, the first thing I thought was of you. And that you would read them, and that they would resonate with you… I had a crazy busy day, but those words never left me… particularly because of a reveling walking experience that I had just recently; but also, because that is what I experienced in the Camino 4 years ago: Beauty, with capital B.
But in this recent walking experience, I felt something amazingly Beautiful, that moved me one step forward, and it was that “I am a part of this”… and even more when I think that “this” is “Beauty”. Feeling a part of the creation. There is not too much to say, other than making sure that I deserve the time to appreciate the Beauty all around, every single day, even if the landscape from my window are just old ugly uncared buildings… as it just take to appreciate how the night turns into day, and how the sun moves around every single minute, and if not cloudy!, how the sky moves from blue to a combination of oranges, pinks and lilacs…

And NEIGHBOR FRIENDS, did I say that friendship and neighborhood-ing are great presences of Beauty???? I am happy to be back to “our” Neighborhood! 🙂

    Much love, and more soon!
    Cris

    1. Cris ~ sounds like you got your batteries charged on your latest secret mission, good for you. Welcome back to the Neighborhood. We all happy with that prayer that Richard Rohr so kindly plopped down in the middle of us this week. There is something in there that suggests the idea that we ourselves participate in this by creating the beauty by seeing it. Things are what they are and don’t know that they are beautiful until we tell them. We get to create beauty by identifying it. Then once we see it we can use it for inspiration. I’m seeing it. Felipe.x
