Catalina’s Student’s Notes #3

Here in front of me I have a reflection paper from Lauren and this is part of what she says:

My Rebecca and Javier along Phil’s Camino.

“The courage and creativity that was necessary to create his own Camino brings tears to my eyes. He didn’t resign himself to despair and inaction with a stage four cancer diagnosis, but rather created something of great meaning that would help him (and his family and community) find healing with his given circumstances. The Camino de Santiago inspired, and he created his own sacred site. St. James was certainly afoot.”

This is a nice simple statement of what went on here in 2013 with challenges, inspirations, influences colliding. The result was the trail and a way to think about it. In other words a physical trail and a way to link it with something bigger. Somehow it all worked out. I didn’t have anything to work from really, had to make everything from scratch.

And we are started walking again across Spain. We are a ways past Orrison. I am doing a whiteboard map this morning to keep track of progress. OK, here we go, love Felipe.

  1. Hola! Felipe!

These are the neatest excerpts from the students. Such a neat thing to get so many perspectives of a remarkably admirable person and event. I’m glad you’re keeping a log again of your daily Caminos. It took me about 30 days to get to Orrision from Le Puy. I had taken an extra day in San Jean pied port to savor the beginnings of the Camino Frances, and it was time well spent.
Advent is charging right along, as it always does. It’s even more rocket propelled this year with the three little grand daughters livening things up with the waiting process. They have lots of questions about all things Christmas related, and it requires some thinking and researching on some of their more interesting queries.
I think you remember Ken and Tory Brust from Oklahoma who came to walk your Camino on the Island with you. They are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this coming weekend and Cathy and i are driving down to help them do it up right. 🙂 It’s so strange that several of our best friends have been married for 50 years. It always used to be REALLY OLD people who made it to that benchmark. 😉

    1. Juan ~ good to hear from you, been a while. You are probably knee deep in wrapping paper. Please say hello to Ken and Tory for us, fine folks. Happy Happy. Felipe.
