Almost Time To Walk

A blast from the past: Gracie on the Camino almost five years ago.

On the road right now. Wiley and I are going down to Cabela’s outdoor store on a sort of pilgrimage. I for years ran an archery summer camp for young folks and Wiley is taking it over from me. We are going down to find a few items that we need yet.

Went to Mass this morning. It was lovely as usual. Father Paul gave me a blessing. That was an unexpected boost. I missed going with Catherine who had to watch the women’s soccer finals. And USA won so good job cheering Catherine!

Almost home and in time for the walk and tapas. Expecting some company today from the mainland and some locals. Sunday’s walk is usually social and fun.

I will be around this week working, weeding and walking. The three w’s it looks like. What is the weather going to do?

Just noticed a few days ago with the post of the Fourth of July that was our 2000th post. Yikes! It was entitled Holy Schmoly by the way.

Time to go and be the hospitality guy. See you tomorrow.
Working, weeding and walking loves, Felipé.

  1. Dear Phil,

Wow… what a couple of posts those two… I think we touched base at a point about a radio conversation from this show “On Being” with a guy who had ALS and when the conversation took place, he was in hospice care and died soon after… That conversation touched me deeply… the man was writing a blog/memoir called “This Dis-ease” (yes, his view was that the disease tries to come to take away the “ease” from life…) but one other thing he said and gave me such a change of perspective: he was highlighting how we talk about “losing a fight” or “losing a battle” or even “gave a good fight”… as if it was something to be against or defeated as you said… and his words reminded me a blessing from John O’Donohue… (For a friend in the arrival of illness)

May you find the wisdom to listen to your illness:
Ask it why it came? Why it chose your friendship?
Where it wants to take you? What it wants you to know?
What quality of space it wants to create in you?
What you need to learn to become more fully yourself
That your presence may shine in the world.

And as we always say, we often need one of these situations to bring us on our knees and think over what we are doing here, if we are living or lasting, if we are making the most of our gifts, if we are honoring this chance we have on earth… and as you said, fear is what holds us back… and the worst is that there are lots that we don’t even know we have… to recognize them is a good start…

    Thank you, as always.
    Love as always Love,
    Cris

  2. Cris ~ hi. That John O’Donohue piece is priceless, thank you. And thanks for the glimpse into the “On Being” show. There are complexities with this “fight” that you are getting at. I think of my cancer sometimes as a messenger. Finding the message is a worthwhile endeavor. But I still find it a fight of sorts at times. It definitely challenges one’s whole being. And perhaps it finds parts of your being that you didn’t know you had. Thanks for your friendship loves, Felipé.x
