0800

The cover of Northwest Catholic Magazine from March 2015.

0800, this is when I usually start to write the blog post. Had breakfast and partial coffee but am not overwhelmed by news and opinions. It’s early and I have an hour to get some kind of snippet out to you before 0900 walk time. That’s sort of the engineering of the process but still need something to write about.

Around here that is largely solved by a couple of ideas. One is the need to report on my cancer journey and it’s ins and outs. Two is the saying that “once you reach Santiago your Camino begins”. We worked on the meaning of that for years and now I just report on my day to day walk. So that is Cancer and Camino and then the third C, Catholicism, has to be sprinkled in. That is a good way to put it because I never seem to be long winded about it but it is always there sprinkled in. Sister Joyce said that I resided on the mystical side of Catholicism. This I take to mean that I am more concerned with the experience of it than the meaning of it.

This morning I got up at 0500 to try and get an appointment for the vaccine. But that was closed on the web. Locally I think that we are out of vaccine so I will have to check in periodically. Yea, that will be nice to get out of the way but we wait.

A few years ago a fourth C appeared for us and that was Corn. I think Henriette had something to do with that realization. So, here and now there is corn news because I did get a window up on the calendar for planting this Spring. It is pretty far away now but I have had folks fly in to help and I wanted to do this for them. So that will be May 10-12. Yay!

So there is a little 4C update on this Monday morning. Walk here in a minute. There is a little blue sky out there peeking through.

peeking through loves, Felipé.

  1. Phil, This is a brilliant plan–breakfast, blog, and walk before “news and opinions.” Mel Robbins, who preaches five minutes of journaling in the morning before reading the news says, “Don’t your dreams deserve five minutes in the morning?” I love that you added Corn as the 4th C, and now I have a 5th C (a silent C, since 4 is enough) that envelops them all: Connection. Thanks for keeping us all connected, Phil. Connected to each other, connected to you, and connected to our roots.
    No news before writing loves,

  2. Are not experience and meaning of a thing in a way interrelated and interwoven?of course we are all different so the way we meditate the experience may be different or seem different?I don’t really know what I’d say what the true aim of religious experience is perhaps unification with the source? organized religions in the west have tended to frown upon ideas of unification or the lack of separation twixt God and the created order and indeed such panentheistic ideas cost the mystic Christian Meister Eckhart a lot of trouble and in the case of Giodarno Bruno his life at the hands of the Spanish Inquisition.i discovered a rather mystic and pantheistic film ending a few days ago from a German film Good Bye Lenin which is about a woman who fell into a coma prior to the end of the German Democratic Republic in hospital in East Berlin and woke up a few years later in Berlin, Germany, different city different country without moving an inch!they are watching the Leader of the GDR on at TV in the hospital ward and he, rather esoterically,is musing that once you have seen our blue planet from space how tiny the GDR would seem and how insignificant the events going on in it would be.

    1. Kevan ~ sorry, I lost track of this comment and just found it again. Back to experience and meaning. Yes, they are interrelated but believers tend to follow more to one side than the other maybe. My personality tends to have me accentuate the experience side at this stage of my life. I will try and find that film, thanks Kevan. Felipé.

  3. It’s about a woman who is a committed socialist and a few weeks prior to the fall of East Germany she goes into a comma.her doctors declare that, when she comes out of the comma,if she learns of the fall of the GDR and socialism it’ll be too upsetting for her.she comes around and it bedridden and her son makes up his own news reports and in the one’s of people pulling down the Berlin Wall the fake news reports claim that the West Germans having heard of the joys of socialism are climbing over to come to live in East Germany!in the sons news reports Sigmund Jahn, the only East German cosmonaut, replaced Erik Honieker as GDR leader and not Ergon Krentz and it’s it’s during one of these false reports that the false Jahn gives his speech about how seeing Earth 🌎 from space changes your perception of life.
